Solo in the spotlight 3
I remembered a number of years ago when I first got hooked up with doll collecting, I came across with No. 1 Barbie. I instantly felt in love with her, the sultry look and her amazing fashion was irresistible. Of course, I was never able to afford a no.1 Barbie until a month ago; I happily brought home a new release of No.1 Barbie. She was still in her box! In order to enjoy the “Solo in the spotlight” fashion I recreated the look on My Size Barbie and here is the result.
Solo in the spotlight
The very first time I saw Barbie in “Solo in the spotlight “I have a strong feeling that Mattel intended the gown to be sequined. In order to celebrate her 50th birthday, I made this gown with a strong influence from another version of this dress “Stunning in the spotlight”.
The dress was actually a column dress with netting flounce, fully lined with back zip closing. Since the gown was 100% hand sewn , the sequins had made sewing almost impossible, I had to remove all the sequins from the seams before sewing in order to let the needle past through the fabric. Moreover, due to the semi transparent nature of the sequined fabric I had to add another layer of lining or else Barbie’s undies will show through!! I guess the end result worth everything.

My Size Babrie: Chinese New Year Dress 2009
Chinese New Year is getting close and I wish all my friends and visitors a happy and healthy Chinese New Year.
The dress was made of pale gold satin. It was decorated with rich gold sequins and small clear crystal beads. Both the front and the back was sequined ! It took forever to finish but the end result worth every minute of the time spend. The Chinese characters in the red velvet greeting card she was holding means: Good Health.
Fortune and Health are the most frequent greetings we give each other during Chinese New Year.
My Size Barbie: Christmas Dress 2008c
Her princess seams velvet top was fully lined with snap closing at the back. The front was decorated with jewels pieces, her collar and cuffs are removable in faux fur. I always admire Mattel designs and only when you try to redo one of their designs, one can fully appreciated how much effort had been invested in each doll.
My Size Barbie: Christmas Dress 2008a
Merry X'mas! The outfit was done entirely by hand, so I guess its ooak. Cause I made one set only! (lol) The dress had sweet heart neckline, fully lined bodice, a lace petticoat and a fully lined simulated mink wrap. They took me almost a month to finish! Luckily she is ready for Christmas. I also added a curly ponytail hairpiece and purchased snowflake earrings in the mix. She looks absolutely marvellous in my living room!
My Size Barbie: Bride
The very first dress I made for this " My size Barbie, she is 3 ft tall ! Never made a dress for such a large doll before.. Its quite a challenge, From patterns developing to the finished gown, it took me a month to finish. The gown was fully lined and with zip closing. I altered this pattern to make the bodice for the x'mas gown.
